Insignia and their competition

DIY Investor,

Assuming management delivers on their effort in "solidifying Insignia's position as the de facto standard for Over-The-Air Repair and Dynamic Capabilities in the mobile market."

That is a BIG assumption, with Blue Iguana, NTT backed DoOnGo, and Nokia/Motorola/Orange backed Bitfone who is teamed with Openwave, in the picture.

The CEO of Bitfone, btw, is Gene Wang who initiated the development of C++ at Borland beating Microsoft to market before moving over to Symantec and creating "Live Update."

Hmm. I just noticed that Michael Coad, currently VP of Business Development at Togabi Technologies who provides PTT solutions, is on the Bitfone board. I first met Michael in 1995 when he managed handset product development for Qualcomm. He moved over to Sprint PCS in early 1996 where he was Manager of Subscriber Equipment thenVP for Equipment Development. I had assumed he was still at PCS.

Exploring a bit further I noticed that Carlton Peyton is SVP of Worldwide Sales at Bitfone. I first met him when he managed US PCS Handset sales for Ericsson before he moved on to Samsung and then SnapTrak. He is a top notch sales manager and 1st class individual.

Bitfone is privately held so not in investment play yet, and less info on them is available then on Insignia, but they may have something to say about Insignia becoming the de facto standard for OTA Repair.

Best,
