As a presidential candidate, then-Gov. Bush had strong words on the subject of big government. "Big government is not the answer." But President Bush's record indicates quite a different view. On the size of government, a recent study by New York University and the Brookings Institution shows there are 1 million more actual government workers today than in 1999. That brings the total to more than 12 million — the most since the Cold War ended. abcnews.go.com Actually a 9.1% increase. Not quite 10% but close enough for discomfort.
