Do you also feel the opposite, that if somebody does a good thing but it winds up having a bad result, are they also responsible for the bad result?

If a person does a bad thing that produces a good result, that person was lucky, and maybe others were lucky, too, but that in no way cancels out the bad thing. If a person is doing a good thing and is not conspicuously negligent in going about it, then a bad outcome doesn't make it a bad thing.

Shooting some stranger because you're having a tough time--there's no excuse, in my mind.

Now I wouldn't give the guy the death penalty or send him to some sewer of a prison, but he still killed someone without any cause or right.

Let's sympathize they hypothetical. Say some bad to the bond guy climbs up on a water tower and starts shooting people. As it turns out, the one person he kills was a serial child molester that the cops have been looking for. Do you prosecute him for murder?
