The outcome for the Islamists is something like Iran, and for the LTTE, something like Cuba." I think that is overly simplistic. I think even Pape is too simplistic- because of the differences between all the groups of suicide terrorists. But in general, I agree with him that the quest for a homeland is secular, and not religious. Obviously a sense of entitlement is a big feature in the suicide terrorists mind, and the society from whence he or she comes.
