Wayne, look at the tables in the Dept. of Commerce: Survey of Current Business. In past issues Sept. 2000, for example Dr. Richebacher has shown the Dept. of Commerce tables featuring current dollars and chain weighted dollars - the difference is very substantial. The hedonic deflator attempts to adjust not only for falling prices but dramatic improvements in quality - there is where the real distortions arise. I cannot say with absolute certainty that Brad is wrong but I think Brad should look at the tables as presented by the Commerce Dept. Mike
