Apparently it's a big deal .. enough for the Ashcroft to initiate an inquiry into this "leak". What's the point in denying that her name was "leaked"? Assuming that her position was not covert, then Justice Dept. is sloppy to have initiated this investigation.

To me it seems more like trying to lessen someone's criminality (leaker's intent). It might well be possible that the person who leaked might not have been aware that he/she was engaging in crime (considering 300 Newspapers carried Novak's syndicated column).
