Why didn't Bush Sr. take out Saddam? Because he didn't want Saddam replaced by a Shiite leader. Make no mistake, the Bushies do not want democracy in Iraq, because the Shiites would take over. What we do need is a semi-stable government, secure borders and lotsa oil revenues. But we're a long-long way from that now.

Look at history. Iraq was patched together by the British. A Balkanized state. Four factions who dislike each other. It's not going to be easy to create a unified free Iraq. In fact, a dictatorship may have been needed to hold those ethnic groups together a la Yugoslavia.

And dammit, who is attacking us there? We still don't know.
Bushies like to call them terrorists, but they might not be.
