The purpose of the non-discrimination policy, IMO, is to obviate systemic discrimination in our society, which is a violation of equal protection under law. It is not to protect individuals from individual insults to their dignity. It is not to protect individuals from hurt feelings over being called a "water buffalo." Although I consider that an important and desirable objective, I don't think that's what the anti-discrimination laws are about.

Besides, this is not just about discrimination. There are other freedoms involved. Like the no-call list, there are conflicting freedoms. Anti-discrimination does not totally trump freedom of association any more than freedom of speech totally trumps privacy.
