Sorry you have such a negative attitude on George Bush.

He might be the nicest person on earth. I don't think he is evil or anything. Just that he does not seem to understand the workings of the world he is messing with.

Correct me if I am wrong, but he is not a person well-versed in the workings of other cultures. He has not travelled well. By his own admissions, he is not a fan of reading, either. Honestly, although he might have all the good intentions, he does not strike me as someone who understands the complexities of international relations, especially with regards to cultural differences.

You can see all this in his miscalculations (or misrepresentations) on dealing with various countries, the UN, and especially the invasion of Iraq. Considering it is important to choose your words and actions so as to get others to support your intentions, his were completely off the mark. Telling traditional allies "You are either with us or against us", for example, was not something I would expect any other president to do. And no, whatever trauma he had during 9/11 is not an excuse for this. Unilateral, trigger-happy, Texas cowboy attitude of Bush since 9/11 is singularly responsible for the erosion of good-will and support to the US after 9/11.

In short, he has been a horrible diplomat. And the US suffers alone as a result.

Why the Middle East is angry with us is beyond me

How this is a mystery to Americans is beyond me :-) Think of yourself as a Saudi. Why are you still ruled by the House of Saud, who grow richer and richer while you get poorer, AND with the law of Sharia to boot? Because the US, defender of democracy in the world, supports and protects the House of Saud (literally had troops there) because they get oil from them. How would you like that if you were a Saudi woman? :-)

Or if you were Palestinian. How would you like it that American tanks crush your home and American guns shoot at you, in what must be one of the few occupations left on earth, because US supports Israel, not only with billions of dollars that also finance their settlements into your land, but also in the international arena, vetoing all resolutions against Israel in the UN Security Council?

However, to be successful we MUST be an HONEST BROKER which means we have to understand Israel and agree with them when they are TERRORIZED by fanatics just as we have to understand Palistinians when they are infuriated by Israel taking their land lot by lot with these illegal "settlements". We have spoken out against both

Agreed. However, speech does not matter as much as action. And as far as actions go, the US has been supporting Israel unconditionally and wholly in this occupation. Without the US, the occupation would be recognized as unsustainable, and the main obstacle to peace would be removed in an instant.

Again, I am not trying to blame anyone. Just pointing out why Muslims in general blame the US for Isr/Pal situation.

<We have spoken out against both.>

Sure.. and even routinely use your veto power at UN -- against the entire world -- to show
that you are equally just to them.
