i have long vowed to keep out of political debates on SI boards, but as i am perhaps at this moment the only person here actively monitoring my portfolio (i dont trade much) from an internet cafe in the west bank, approximately 150m from abu mazen's house (may his ambitions rest in peace...), perhaps i can just say a brief, quiet 'amen' to EC's words?

(EC: is that enough to qualify me for inclusion in one of the most-favoured minority groups eligible for your next PP?)

there are lots of other possibilities in this situation. there are always lots of other possibilities. but the more power you concentrate in the hands of a few people, however 'democratic' or otherwise the process of concentration, the less likely they are to want to encourage you to consider the existence of possibilities which don't suit their own agenda or the vested interests which they represent.

of course, i admit i'm biased: if it wasnt for the fact that the israeli army keep preventing my israeli-palestinian assistant from travelling to work with me in the occupied territories, i would be outside right now in the beautiful late summer sunshine, doing something good for my soul, and possibly useful for the future of humanity, not sitting here surrounded by kids playing computer games, trying to weigh up the medium-term prospects for the price of cathode copper...:-)

ps

<<<and that it exist under the permanent threat of Israeli armed invasion at a moment's notice

what sort of existence does the average Israeli have, knowing that there is a possibility that taking a bus from here to there might mean losing a limb or their life ?

<<<without the Isrealis having any fear of rebuke by international opinion.

public opinion is generally against the Israelis no matter what

<<<The Isrealis want to occupy every square foot of Jerusalem, and to have no other inhabitants

Jerusalem has four quarters, Jewish,Arab,Christian,Armenian
