Don't remember off hand, but I think you will find the choice under tools -> internet options -> advanced

Sam, if i understand your question, you can either open a new window by clicking on the IE icon, or you can input a new URL in the address bar of the existing window. is this what you were asking? larry

I think it's the "reuse windows for launching shortcuts."
If you have a link and hit it, the window goes to the link. Otherwise, it would open a new window.


was the way it is supposed to work. I tested it on my IE6 and saw no difference whether the checkmark was there or not. I hit the apply and ok buttons and had only one window open when I made the change and closed it after the change. That should have worked but didn't so I did it again and after again closing and reopening IE there was still no change. Now I'm perplexed so I even did a restart of the machine after changing it again. Still no dice! I then to myself I say....self...enough of this bs...uncle!

When I want to open a link in a new window I either right click the link and choose "open in new window" or even better...hold down the shift key while clicking the link.
