I need a gun

I think every citizen should have one. Like well.. most have a car or a truck thats at least as dangerous. Many dont know about real risks and statistics and things though. One is just supposed to understand.

An armed society is a polite society. Thats how I see it -g-

Maurice: History illuminates what has worked and what
hasn't, and why, for those who study it as intrinsically interesting and as a lesson. Since most people (at least in the U.S.) share varying measures of your view . . .

History is bunk and mostly used by criminals to justify some current insanity . . .

it is no surprise they don't glean much from history. If calculus isn't bunk because bridges and buildings stay up, then history isn't bunk when it helps to produce the U.S. Constitution, illuminates paths to freedom for many nations, and helps people avoid repeating mistakes. While national history may include many elements of fable, it can also form ties that bind an otherwise fractious people.

And what's with this?

I get nervous and start thinking I need a gun when people start telling me what I "ought" to do.

Could it be that your adamant stance against guns draws too singularly upon your own experience? <g> Here in Texas we mostly just get along, and generally don't tolerate either busybodies or trigger-happy people. You're fortunate to live in circumstances in which a gun seems so repellent, because that means you find it unnecessary. But that all were so lucky.
