Most employees are frightened of the possibility of a lawsuit being brought against them because someone else doesn't like what they did or did not do. Their legal responsibilities can be confusing and even arbitrary.

Although school districts try to cover all the bases, it's really on a case by case basis. It's up to individuals to bring each and every incident to the attention of administrators so that they can be evaluated and included in the traditional monday morning informational meetings that take place between administrators and employees. Even then, secretaries, janitors and lunchroom employees are usually exempt from such meetings.

For the most part, school district employees are most interested in covering their a**.
