The US has an A and B list too. I believe the Israelis are on the A list. They get equipment that is pretty current. The B's get older stuff we know we can beat. I suppose the Soviets never trusted anyone enough to give them their best stuff. With good reason: it's satellites were hardly reliable allies. Once the fall started, they all bolted for the door.

Also, Snyder's statements that US military equipment was always superior to Soviet equipment is hardly true. Their MIGs usually were a match for American military jets and not uncommonly better. The same was true of their tanks.
