re:Our enemies that present the most danger are not there.

So where are they Ted??

Should we invade Saudi?

Where have 50 years of guns and bombs got Israel? Is there no other way? How'bout being an impartial catalyst for conciliation for a change?

re:The religious zealots in Islam are not a minority like the radical right of the GOP in this country.

According to all of the news media, our president and those of Muslim countries and religious leaders they say the zealots are a minority. Sort of like the looney left enviro-whackos or the WTO protestors at home.

No, more like the radical religious right in this country but more pervasive than they are. In Muslim countries, you don't go to church on Sundays and then as a separate function go to work during week. The religion and daily life are interwined, putting in a foundation that is more fundamentalist than our society. There was good reason we decided to separate Church and State.

Having said that and from what I can see, I don't think the religion of Islam is any more violent than Christianity........but rather the interpretations made by people have made it more so.

re:Its amazing how little we know of the enemy.

They want you (collectively speaking) dead.

The OBLs.....yes. They see us as helping to perpetuate their real enemies..........the corrupted gov'ts like the theocracy that rules Saudi Arabia. With our bases in Saudi Arabia, they also see us as corrupting the holy soil of Mecca, the city where Muhammad was born. That should end when we close our Saudi bases.

They would have been a better choice than Iraq. However, its not a particular nation that is our enemy but the radicalization of a religion to accomplish the aims of certain subversives. I believe we have allowed ourselves to get ensnared in the ongoing evolution of the Arab/Muslim culture.........not because we are innocents but rather to maintain certain vested interests we have in the region.

I think there is an internal struggle going on the ME not unlike the collapse of the Soviet Empire. A radical transformation is in process and by its very nature, it can be very violent. I think we have plugged into that violence.
