The fact that the US buys a lot of Saudi oil did not preclude many high-placed Saudis--and perhaps the Royal family itself--from bankrolling AQ in its terrorism against the US.

Don't underestimate the power of fanaticism to roll over economic rationality.

So far, there has been very little interest on the part of the Iranians to cooperate with the Europeans on nuclear issues.
