You mean they would have invaded Iraq on their own if the US hadn't done it? That seems odd, perhaps I misunderstood your quote.

The critical nations favored a strict inspections regime to insure Iraq did not pose a threat to its neighbors. I don't recall any of them ever discussing alternative military plans. No need, since they were not convinced a compelling case had been made about actual WMD or terrorist links.

Feel free to correct me if I twisted your words 90 degrees out of context.

If it's a bluff, the UN is exposed. Which would improve the image on the US. If it is not a bluff, we get rid of troublesome Iraq- it's a win either way, imo.
