It was a quick post. I meant throughout history, nations "in power" have done similarly. Whether it's a "mission" that they have or just looking for power or money, this has happened. I'm not saying it's right. France has regularly sent troops when it thinks it's right to former colonies or client states.

I was suggesting that if they were in the US shoes, they would do the same. It's a hypothetical and not really worthy of debate.

Sorry - It was a poor choice of terms on my part.

As to real world motivation, I believe France was largely motivated by the huge Iraqi debt. My opinion obviously.
