James, very interesting to read Templeton's views. I certainly can't poo-poo them because he is a proven master of investment.

Anyway, as a lone voice in the investment wilderness, I don't think he's right. I understand his logic and I know "where he's coming from" and I don't disagree with his conclusion that the East will eventually become the economic powerhouse of the world. In fact, the US policy of globalization has encouraged exactly that.

However, I don't believe that the emergence of the East as the economic leader means the collapse of the US. Far from it. Although I have contempt for the present American regime (as you know) and disrespect for the business leaders, I have great regard for the US and the resourcefulness of its people and I believe that there will still be some very pleasant surprises ahead.

But there first have to be some big changes.
