Part of what needs to be done IMO is implement a national strategy of sorts to develop new technologies. New technologies are VERY expensive and really cannot be created in the garage like they used to be, especially if we are talking about things on the molecular or angstrom level. This is one area in which government could prove useful. They were behind many of the inventions we see today and will be critical for them to follow with new technologies. If we are to compete in the future, we will need some leadership (and $$) from the govt. IMO. And if we lose our leadership in this area, I am not hopeful. The part that makes me optimistic is the fact that America takes the best ideas(and people) and uses them, and we have freedom of expression like nowhere else. 600,000 engineers annually are useless if they all think in the same linear fashion.

Bookdon, China's engineers and scientists will be supporting the tremendous growth in their manufacturing
sector.....or coming here on visa's to work for US companies. I am all for education, but there need to be
jobs available...it is becoming increasingly difficult for
US graduates to find jobs here....they can't all be
salesmen and managers.... I sure don't want my son to move
back home when he graduates because he can't find a job. BB
