He is an anti-Zionist, and therefore gets reflexively called anti-semitic. It is the conquering, colonizing Jews and Christians who he identifies as Islam's enemies. Which is not the same thing as "all Jews", or "all Jews and Christians".

From Matahir's speach:

<We also know that not all non-Muslims are against us. Some are well disposed towards us. Some even see our enemies as their enemies. Even among the Jews there are many who do not approve of what the Israelis are doing.>

Can you see what he is proposing, when he advocates doing what Saladin did with King Richard of England? He is advocating exactly the kind of practical compromise, that would allow peace for Israel. And, in that speech, he repeatedly criticized terrorism, as ineffectual and UnIslamic.

is proof positive that the Muslim world has gone nuts.

Whenever a polity or a culture that co-exists with Jews is in trouble, like Germany was in the '20s and '30s and the Islamic world is now, it seems that the easiest explanation is "blame the Jews!" instead of sober reflection. The psychodynamics, politics, and cultural reasons for such thinking is beyond me. I simply do not understand it.

The difference betweent Germany in the '20s and '30s and Islam now is, of course, the existence of Israel and the difficulties faced by the Palestinians, many of which (though not all) are self-created. Not to mention the fact that Jews will never march quietly into a new Holocaust.

I fear for the Israelis because inevitably WMDs will be used against them. The repercussions will change the world.
