If you don't use the phone, you don't pay a dime to have the service after getting the chip. Paper cell phone bills don't exist so there are no surprises.

The companies here don't want that! I have almost no phone use here. My present cell is 40.35 a month. I think I can lower it by going to a land line. The only problem is a hookup charge if I change apartments. But if I can get it down to about $20 a month, it will be worth it. TWT.

Then you buy a chip and put it in the back of your phone from whatever company you want service with.

Much better model, IMO. After number portability, this is the biggest hassle with cell phones. You have to get a new phone every time you change carriers.
