Early on in the discussion, several people, including me, said they thought it was reasonable for Mojo to run a male only operation. My rationale was that health clubs, hair salons, and the like have a tradition of segregated facilities that only started to change recently. It seems to me that Curves could declare itself as female only and Mojo could do the same only for men. No freedom of conscience need be referenced. Mojo's problem was finding an acceptable rationale for excluding gays.

It would be interesting to see how Curves dealt with a man coming in and wanting to join. If you get an easy entre, why not ask? There's a Curves near me. Maybe I'll check it out, too.

Did you ask if men can join? There's a difference between designing a service that appeals to women, and patently excluding men. I've never seen a man at Tony's Nail Salon. They just never seem to go there- but I'm sure if they did, Tony or one of her girls would be happy to paint the nails of any man who did show up, and who could brave the incredibly strong smell of acrylic solvents.

"I do wonder what the difference is ... "

I could tell you but I don't have time to read all the hate mail I'd receive for telling the truth again.
