'The problem with militant Islam is that, for all our commentary about wackos, Islamofascism, etc., they perceive themselves as doing God's work, fostering the well-being of the ummah, and doing what they strongly believe is religiously appropriate.

How can one argue with that?
'

In clear thoughtful terms, patiently and with firmness, while building respect for rule of law through keeping our cool and distinguishing well the criminal from the victim, in each specific case ...... the way the devout agnostic would NOT argue with that, is to fall into the trap of using the same terminology, and at the top of the list is the term 'war', due to its propensity to attract the adjective 'holy'

Islam needs a New Testament and a Reformation, yes that is clear ... at the same time, there are a lot of judeo-christians who might profitably review the more useful principles developed in their own versions

Some things make sense to the great body of humans, and are likely to be adopted as law, and some things don't, or take longer ...... two of the ten commandments work pretty well, let's start with them - 1. thou shalt not murder, and 2. thou shalt not steal ...... applying these to the case you state, of muslims vs. jews, we prosecute both sides for killing, be it with suicide belts or armoured bulldozers or aeroplanes, no matter, murder is murder .... we prosecute the theft of zionofascist land or belongings by islamofascists, or vice versa, no matter, theft is theft and must be discouraged

I thought Mahathir's speech pretty moderate under the circumstances, actually ... well thought out, and it will be remembered by his audience, quoted a lot down the road, quite likely ..... the pro-zionist faction won't like bits of it, sure, but consider that they get to shrug and say oh well with a quiet smile when yet more palestino land gets taken for der Judenstaat, people's houses and olive groves bulldozed ..... what a species, eh .... i've missed this thread while on the road for a while, but i didn't completely miss out on squabbling and cussing, all the various foibles, we've got them everywhere -g- ..... later .... cheers
