The guy is sure long winded and mixes up a lot of history. But he fails to answer the key question:

Does the US have the staying power to stick it out in Iraq till liberal democracy flourishes?

If the answer is no, an exit strategy is what we should be pursuing, and the sooner, the better.

The problem in Iraq is not the intentions of the Bush administration. It is the cost for implementing those intentions. The administration wildly underestimated the costs. Judging by the way the $87 billion package fared in Congress, it will apparently be the last package approved.

One year is an awful short time to convert an ethnically divided country held together by brutal central government force since its inception, into a western style liberal democracy. I sure hope it can be done, cause it will solve a lot of long term problems. If it succeeds, Bush will be regarded as one of the greatest presidents. But I am not holding my breath.
