I believe that "steeper" should be replaced with "longer". Fabs and tools are more expensive. Each node on the road map is more and more difficult to implement and ramp up yields. Semi manufacturers are more sensitive to end user demand and corporate profitability.

I have thought this since 2001. Next year will be the real test.

Is "steeper" necessarily a good thing though? My guess is not. I would prefer duration.
