Yes, the Swiss election result fits to similar outcomes in other European countries during the past months.

I don't think so. People are generally scared by the recession and afraid of the future, there's a "the boat is full" mood. A strange combination - many European populations are shrinking yet immigrants are rejected.

A guy from Norway told me that there is rising unease over mosques being built in the smaller towns, in particular the prayer towers and the sounds that emanate from them at prayer call. Said it was very disquieting to the people who are used to a peaceful countryside. He didn't elaborate much, but I think it was getting on his nerves. He also mentioned that muslims show little interest in mixing with the native population and don't put much effort into learning the language.

He was no rabble rouser, this was an oil company executive and seemed like a decent fellow.
