Actually, it did not. People use things to rationalize their bad behavior all the time. You may as well blame Nazism on science, since it buttressed its ideology with eugenics theories. I know a woman, a Southerner, who went to university in the '30s. One of her professors was an eminent biologist who was given a platform for disseminating the worst kind of racial theories. Should I therefore condemn higher education or biology? What is more important here is that a truer reading of the New Testament inspired and energized a movement to close down the slave trade.......
