"I think selling AMD today on any pop from TXN is a good idea. Take profits off the table and enjoy Christmas. What do you think?"

Thought I'd jump in here. TXN's results and strong forward guidance are profoundly significant for the semi sector and strongly confirm that a new semi upcycle has just begun. As, historically, semi up cycles last 2 to 4 years, my guess is that you, by getting out today, are getting out at least $50 too early. Trade if you will, but, again, my guess is that by Christmas you'll be chasing AMD into the $20's!

What makes this semi-cycle so different from the previous semi-cycle is the much greater global scope of new participants as China and India are rapidly installing infrastructure this time round combined with the pentup demand associated with an installed base that is very long in the tooth! This cycle, as a result, could easily dwarf the previous cycle in its magnitude and duration.

Most exciting of all, is that AMD, with its "Opteron-family" 32/64-bit lineup is offering "new product" about which a new buying cycle can get excited as opposed to INTC who is still trying to cram "same-old, same-old" fast obsoleting 32-bit only product into the channel!

Consequently, as AMD is positioned more strongly with respect to competition than at any time in its history, AMD's ascent in this cycle is likely to outdistance that of 4 years ago when "spry-Athy" was released.

Again, trade AMD if you will, but I suspect that a purchase program while under $20, and hold for 1 to 2 years will pay far superior returns than any AMD trading program will over the next 1 to 2 year period!

Good idea. That way you can buy back in at $25 in January.

With very few exceptions, even when AMD doesn't have a key new platform and rapidly rising flash sales, AMD does very well in this period - it's the best time of the year to hold and the worst time to sell.

Steve, I'm afraid I'm placing you on ignore. I think that the style of posting you've been exhibiting is better suited to the Yahoo board. Good luck.

Doug

Steve,

IMHO, only an Intel nasty or a Taliban nasty can stop AMD stock from running up toward 20 by the end of the year.

When's the Prescott paper release date again? Safe until leaks of the 64 bit prescott FUD start to really surface...along with BOpco and some gamer benches showing the "superiority" of Intels "x86-64" extensions.
