I had personal experience of this when my 70 year old father suffered a stroke while visiting us. Without active and significant intervention by the family he would not have gotten the treatment he did that restored him to almost full functionality.

Terri Schiavo's feeding tubes are being reconnected and hydration has begun.

Of course the debate is still not over as appeals are already being put forward. The line has been drawn in the sand once more.

Do we honor the sanctity of human life and the human condition in it’s various states of presentation or; do we begin to establish criteria for membership based on the utility of human endeavor (ie. “She will never get up and dance.”)
