The publicity certainly is not free. The company paid for the Washington Post,the first NY Times,the LA Times and the Swedish newspaper adds. Subsequently there may have been some additional advertising bills which may have been paid for by the "Friends" committee but we'll never know for sure since they are not required to file any financial report.
Money may be coming in from all over but the real question to be addressed is where is it going. With a captive board of directors and no voting power vested in the common share holders we may never be able to determine the answer to that question. IMO this dictatorial control is what keeps Wall Street from supporting the company.
