The standards don't have anything to do with when the kids turn their work in. The decisions regarding accepting late work are within the purview of each teacher. The standards are merely specific lists of what they should know (the concept of metaphor, how to write a business letter, how to use email and power point, etc). And of course we have tests, that show us how they are doing. "Brian"- the kid I am talking about, reads at the 12.9 grade level (where we top out on the test- we simply can't measure above 12.9) and he scores in the 90th percentile on the CAT6standards test. Even though there ARE teachers who would fail him, on principle, I don't see the point.
