Have you ever bought a gun. It is not an easy process. There is an instant background check and yes all felons are in the database and the forms go to the police. It takes a good 15 minutes to fill out the form and two iron-clad, matching forms of identification are needed. Every table at guns shows is run by a dealer who also require you to fill out the same forms and background check, the same as if you were at their store.

By the way an "assault rifle" is a term created and used by Hitler "sturmgewehr" and such weapons fire both semi-auto and are machine guns and have been highly regulated since 1934 and have been illegal for manufacture by individuals since 1986. People that buy stocks for "investments" could be classified as whackos. Look at the internet stock bubble. Collectors are simply investors and historians. Those that breed dogs, collect 70s memorabilia, or participate in ball room dancing or other hobbies could also be whackos.
