In Illinois we have the firearm owners ID. Renewed every 5 years and a real pain. Especially getting the picture they want. Still have the waiting times to buy from a dealer.

OTOH I bought a sawed off 12 gauge double barrel in a bar parking lot for $50. No one asked for my FOID. I ran it through the police and it wasn't stolen. Still had the smoking empties in it from the drive by shooting.

It needed a new stock which I found on the net for $17. It lives under my bed with a couple of 3" #4 buckshots in it.

You left out some FACTS (what a surprise). That gun store had a previous long history of "stolen" guns for which they had no records. So you are part of the coverup.
