JF, let's see:

- Legal immigration is impacted because no one wants to kick out the illegals. Instead, the limits on how many legals can be accepted is lowered.

- Businesses that follow labor and immigration laws are screwed over, because they have to compete against those that don't.

- The job market for citizens and permanent residents is impacted because of those businesses that would rather hire illegals on the cheap.

- Minimum-wage laws become a joke because of the above.

- Organized crime thrives on importing illegals in cargo containers and forcing them to work like slaves.

- Issues with homeland security should be obvious.

- Illegals typically don't get car insurance and drive without licenses. This was a hot-button issue in California, where our now lame-duck governor gave illegals the ability to obtain driver's licenses.

Lots of people lose out when the laws and enforcement thereof are inconsistent. Either we enforce the laws as they are, or we open up all immigration and live up to the notion of "Give me your tired, your poor." Or at least somewhere in between, as long as it's consistent.

I'm all for immigration, obviously, but the way it is right now encourages lawbreakers and discrimination.
