Time and again we have shown we prefer a friendly dictator over anything else.

ST, this slides dangerously close to the prevalent idea that anything bad must be America's fault, somehow or other. We didn't install Nasser in Egypt or Saddam in Iraq or Assad in Syria or ibn Saud in Arabia. Generally speaking, they weren't even our allies; they allied with the USSR against us. You want to accuse of siding with a dictator, pick a modernizing one - the Shah. We sided with him.

Everybody else has been strictly an affair of convenience. We have no power to change their governments without an invasion. We just overthrew the worst of the dictators with the stated objective of founding a democracy; why doesn't that make you happy, if you are so unhappy at American support of dictators?
