It's more than the removal of legal impediments. It's the removal of social impediments. I wouldn't say that those are gone, but I think that their back has been broken. There are role models and success stories galore. Anything is possible for black kids today that is possible for white kids. Maybe not yet for the median black kid vs. the median white kid, which will still require some work, but for the best and the brightest, there is no impediment. We need to now focus on solving whatever impediments remain for the median kid. Sending the message that race matters and that he's not good enough to make it on his own is not the way. Institutionalizing groupism and entitlements is not the way. Promoting tokens is not the way. The risk to the system as a whole is greater than the reward, IMO. I remember signs saying "no Catholics need apply." Now, it's irrelevant, anachronistic. We will get there with race, too.
