From the research kitchens of Burger King, an interesting exchange from the archives:

Raymond Duray: That's good stuff AS,
Keep on bashing Bush. It warms the cockles of this curmudgeon's heart.

But you really need to do something about your credibility. You see, I continually disparage the Right because, as I'm sure you notice, they rarely if ever provide URLs to corroborate their lies and distortions. This is the telling mark of the con artist. So, we wouldn't want you to be painted with the broad brush of recrimination for mental laziness, now would we?

American Spirit: We dont need to post URL's for everything we say. I read some things in papers, magazines, hear from friends, see on TV, even read between the lines. If I had nothing else to do I could go around posting URL's, but I like the honor system. Dont post anything you cannot prove if you have to. And if you are ever wrong admit it and learn. Also, many generally true statements are only 60-99% true. There's always some exception. For instance, if I say, Bush defends polluters, I'm sure there's been one or two times he hasn't. Example, right before he decided to run for President he suddenly stopped rewarding polluters in Texas, but that wasn't until late in 1999 according to "The Dirty Truth", written by a Texas expert who records all the details. And the reasons were political not because he wanted to stop. Bush is not 100% bad, nor is anyone 100% good. But if he's 65% wrong IMHO I am going to grouse a lot about it, because we definitely can do a lot better, at least 50% better. Or whatever the percentage. So no I dont believe in black and white even if I sound like it sometimes. But largely partisan statements are necessary because of what I hear from the other side. Whenever I hear Rush Limbaugh dittoheads lie, omit or exaggerate I have the right to post the opposite arguments. But look at my statements and tell me where I have lied. If you find a lie, challenge me and I will find proof for you. But only a few please. I'm busy these days. If you ask for too much I wont have time to respond.

Raymond Duray: AS,
I wasn't implying that there's a truth deficit to your posts. Since they're among the most honest. The criticism is that without URLs, all you are providing is hearsay and opinion. Swell stuff for a barroom discussion and typical of the lazy rightwingnutz. But I thought you might aspire to a more elegant work product. Alas, you're proving me wrong.

Que sera sera.

Hasta la vista, hombre. :)

American Spirit: Not hearsay. I just read four books on the subjects I'm posting about. And I pride myself in having a good BS detector. If the book doesn't back up its arguments with voluminous sources, I dont buy it. That said, not all truth has been printed yet, or proven. The "liberal media" of the 70's is past and gone. There are few muckraking reporters around who dare to expose corruption in our society. And even if they do the supposedly "liberal mainstream media" wont print it. For instance, it is a fact that 57,700 mostly minority voters were cut off the Florida voter rolls in 2000 by a GOP-linked consulting company working for Jeb Bush. They adnmitted later they made "mistakes". The Democratic Party didn't even try to publicize it. The Washington Post wouldn't touch it until 3 months later. The proof was there but just because the Jeb Bush offices denied it it wasn't printed. Totally proven and not denied by this company is the fact the Jebsters omitted 8000 such voters just because they had similar names to felons in GW's Texas, though there is no law in Florida which prohibits out-of-state felons from voting, and very few were actually felons. So if 1000 of those 8000 had voted, at the very least, most of whose only crime was having the same name as a Texas felon, Gore would be president now. But the real number was 57,700. This isn't fiction. It just isn't reported. Except in Europe and on the web. See gregpalast.com, the BBC reporter you'll see on Hardball and other shows. He does his homework and left-wing or not, he's credible. Some people hate him but he would not be on the BBC if he wasn't truthful. The WHite House HATES him. They'd assasinate him if they could. gg But the American Public still thinks Bush won the election. He didn't. He just cheated. And the majority of voters voted for Gore so why shouldn't we be pissed off? And why should we trust the Bushies? No reason to at all. They'll do anything to get elected. And they should be held accountable. Except for their out of court settlement with the NAACP they haven't been. Really tragic for our democracy. And scary.

Clinton's people created the military we have now. Don't knock it. Recent poll in the Army's newspaper show Clark and Kerry together get over 50% of their votes. Bush gets one third. The most important thing to know about soldiers is that they just want a clear mission properly planned with a clean exfiltration strategy. In Iraq, none of that was there. The invasion was the easy part. Knowing what the hell to do there once they've taken over was the key. Maybe this is because not a single right-wing leader has ever been in combat. They don't understand that soldiers need clarity and smart leadership.
