COSTING the state of California a billion dollars
You ready to back up up that number?

No- of course I can't.

But maybe you can help me piece it together.

Say you have 5000 - 10000 trips per year back and forth to India for misc Oracle personnel for "cross training" <gg>. So security costs here, airline security, baggage check etc. I have no idea what the annualized cost of this is, quite high I would imagine.

Next wear and tear on community services etc. with no taxes paid for thousands. This one is hard to quantify but I once read it costs $400 per year per adult individual to provide local services, no idea how accurate that is but lets go with that.

Medical: "visitor medical insurance" is not required for visas. Since L1s are now paid in offshore bank accounts, this means all classifications of this type are utilizing emergency care provided by states. Lets assume this is 2k/year per visa holder? (minimum)

Next court costs which are really extreme for Oracle, overleading the US court system. Oracle ALWAYS loses. Always. All this costs money, and ties up the courts.

Bosses may want to think twice before firing employees who hold stock options, given a recent court ruling against database giant Oracle.
Last week, former Oracle vice president Sandy Baratta won her wrongful termination lawsuit against the company and was awarded approximately $2.6 million. Nearly $2 million of the award came from the value of her unvested stock options at the time of her termination.

Meanwhile, the company is suing former executive Pier Carlo Falotti, claiming he has no right to $10 million in unvested options. Oracle fired Falotti four days before his options were to vest.

I don't know if we can include other peripheral costs such as increased UI payouts since companies like Oracle are effectively dumping labor onto the system. This is a huge cost to the USA, I think you have to agree with that though. These companies are more profitable than EVER, even more than in the late 90s and yet the CA UI system is broke and in need of a billion dollars. How much of this is attributable to Oracle's unethical "labor practices" (assuming Oracle ushered in this offshore BS)- imo, A LOT.

Anyway all in all, keeping Oracle healthy has cost CA more than its worth. Oracle could shut down tomorrow, and imho the employment rate in SV would actually GO UP, CA would spend less on security and free healthcare and life would be better for all.
