The Forest Service used to allow citizens to drag out dead trees and branches that have already fallen. Since they stopped doing that, these fires have gotten progressively worse....

Not much I can disagree with there.

What is silly about what we can call "preservationists" here, is that their actions are self-defeating. They result in the destruction of that which they seek to preserve. Challenging half of the Forestry Service's custodial thinning recommendations is not being concerned with the health of the parklands - it is a purely ideological act driven by a bizarre primitivism.
