Payment on the debt has to be sustained. Entitlements have to be sustained unless the laws are changed. A certain level of defense spending has to be sustained. We can cut other levels of spending and absorb the consequences. The federal government pled poverty when California asked them for money to suppress fire danger. California is paying the consequences of that action. We can cut road maintenance and pay the consequences. etc.

Bush's tax cuts were to BUY VOTES, not SS and Medicare. They also buy huge contributions from the rich. Look at how much Bush is raising from the beneficiaries of the tax cuts for the rich. Records amounts. Much-much more than anyone has ever given on the consumer or labor side.
