The British had a direct line to 4/5 of the newspapers, according to some knowledgeable observers. What is incontrovertible is that anti-Mossadeq editorials that were written in London by British editorialists would be inserted into Tehran newspapers within 24 hours of their creation, and distributed as though they originated in Iranian intelligentsia. Control of the media is a key element of controlling the population. Today, it is no different. Just look at the line-up for today's TV Talk Shows: washingtonpost.com There is not one single serious critic of the Bushistas allowed to appear in our so-called free media. Americans should be up in arms over the government's obvious stranglehold on information. But for some reason, only a tiny handful of us seem to care.
