AJ, I'm glad that you said "they call themselves Christians", because the details of scripture, and man-made, doctrines have nothing to do with being a Christian. It's the same of a member of the BPOE. Just because they belong to a fraternal organization, it does not automatically make them benevolent individuals. I have heard of the many books in the, original, bible that have been altered, or excluded, from bibles over the decades, and centuries. Many Christians say that one cannot be a true Christian unless they believe in every single word of the bible, but those humans that came before them have already censored the book to fit their own agendas. That same tampering is still going on today, which has rendered the bible almost useless. It might have some credence if humans had just left it alone in it's original version. It is so silly, that some Christians say the prefer the KJV because it is written in the language of God. Idiots!! As I am sure you know, it is written in the language of King James II, and in some cases, altered to fit his preferences.

"Each was legitimate and true to its own set of adherents." That's funny. Unfortunately we don't live in a world where every mans alternate universe is real. It may be true that no one is right, but it is stupid to think every one can contradict each other and still be right. The Bible is the word of God because it comes from God. Canonicity comes as a result of men discovering and recognizing what God has already done. P.S. The new translations are just that, translations. However, the translations are based on very ancient and accurate documents that were written in Greek for the most part.
