That same tampering is still going on today, which has rendered the bible almost useless

I agree their are version that have taken too many liberties in translation. The bible I use, the New American Standard, is translated by the Lockman Foundation which is dedicated to a literal translation of the original Hebrew and Greek writings. I trust it.

About some of the "other" writings. The "other letters" that were left out were writings that surfaced long after Jesus ascended. A couple hundred years after and they were excluded because their authorship could not be accurately verified. Their authenticity was in question. For the first few hundred years of the church there were separate groups of Christains who each had their own writings. Most of that was of questionable origin so when the "Bible" was first put together the Christian Church leaders used the most authentic and verifiable books and letters. And I believe they were lead by the Holy Spirit in their choices to put together a standardized collection of writings to guide HIS Church. 4 Gospels by disciples who walked with Jesus, saw everything. Most of the writers of the letters were written by Apostles and Christians who knew Jesus Himself and walked with Him. A few did not but were strongly lead by the Holy Spirit in what they wrote. Paul had had visions and been taken up to heaven and seen many things. John walked with the Lord and also had heavenly visions.

I know personally that the "word" of God is alive. "In the beginning was the Word....the Word became flesh and dwelt among us"....That's the beginning of the Gospel of John. Now John is saying and I know it's true, that Jesus and the (His) Word are the same. The Word is Jesus here, in your hand. It's a real and living part of Him. There is an experience called the "quickening" of the Word. If a person seeks enough He can see deeper and deeper into spiritual things. And the spiritual things become "alive". Sometimes the Word is called the "living Word". It is living and can be living for those who seek deeply enough. It will become a living thing and literally become alive to you, before your eyes, and in your spirit. It's one of those things that describing does not really explain. You have to experience it for yourself.
