* The US attacks Iraq in late February/early March, using a modified Afghanistan strategy of air power, special forces, Army Rangers and Marines on the ground. ........ Under this mounting pressure the Iraqi regime cracks and Saddam Hussein either flees or is capped by a trusted associate.
* A huge relief rally takes the US stock indexes up 30% to 40%. Half or more of these gains are retained at year-end 2003.
* Business capital investment shows marked signs of life in the second half of 2003, prompting a return of economic optimism.
