The Army has excellent Arty. They don't need the new one, and Rummy cancelled it. He was right. They didn't need any more Arty for Iraq, Franks agreed, and it turned out to be true.

You have to be kidding. The lead time for producing the Crusader system wouldn't have had it on the field in Iraq in any case. Rumsfeld's cancellation of a new generation of field artillery had nothing to do with Iraq. Rumsfeld's decisions will leave future soldiers holding the bag, not troops currently serving. "They don't need the new one," And you base this assertion on what, exactly?

As for "He was right"- according to whom? The Rumsfeld fanclub, who think that his handling of the presscorp translates into wisdom as a Defense Sec? A lot of military staff sure don't think "he's right". They think the Army was very lucky to have an incompetent foe, because Rumsfeld's poor decisions could have been exploited and cost a lot of American lives.
