Maybe in a few years the next military action we have , Iraq troops may support us.. We have seen it in Eastern Europe, why not Iraq. Wonder where the French will be in a few more years.

If they find corroborating evidence (which NSA might already have), this could be a tremendous amount of leverage to hang over the French and Russian governments.

"Proof" of what France and Russia were up to is kind of like the need to "prove" that cigarette smoking causes cancer if you ask me.

Would Saddam have accepted exile absent the French/Russian assurances he could survive and hold onto power?

Remember the stories like this one?

Bush backs Saddam exile plans

By Stewart Powell in Washington
February 1 2003

For the first time President George Bush has publicly endorsed efforts by Arab leaders to negotiate exile for President Saddam Hussein, to avoid a United States-led attack on Iraq.
Mr Bush expressed his support at the White House on Thursday shortly before a private meeting with the Saudi Foreign Minister, Prince Saud al-Faisal. The prince is the architect of moves by a coalition of Arab nations to offer Saddam asylum and exemption from war crimes charges.
Mr Bush said he hoped international pressure would convince Saddam to relinquish power. "Should he choose to leave the country, along with a lot of the other henchmen ... we would welcome that, of course."

France and Russia took the position that Iraq was not a WMD threat to the US -- and they were 100% correct. France and Russia knew this because they had a much closer relationship to Saddam. They actually had a clue as to what was and what was not going on in Iraq. The US, acting without a clue, still cannot fathom the extent to which their "intel" from expatriate Iraqis was a crock of $hit. Don't blame France and Russia for out troubles -- we brought them on oursevles by refusing to believe the truth about Iraq -- no WMD and no threat to the US.
