Personal and business bankruptcies up in September from August: Industry Dept. 09:43 AM EST Nov 05 OTTAWA (CP) - Both personal and business bankruptcies rose in September from August, Industry Canada reported Wednesday. A total 7,209 individuals and 734 businesses declared bankruptcy in September compared with 6,405 individuals and 571 businesses in August. Figures from the first nine months of this year show more consumers, but fewer businesses, declaring bankruptcy than in the same period last year. During the first nine months of this year, 63,334 consumers and 6,701 businesses went bankrupt, compared with 58,894 and 7,318 respectively during the same period a year earlier. © The Canadian Press, 2003
