No, we still do not have legitimacy because we went for a meaningless UN resolution that does nothing to hand power over to the UN.

So you reject the UN conferring legitimacy and jurisdictional control over Iraq to the CPA?

How brash of you!!! Who do you think you are that you can unilaterally defy the will of the UN???!!!

The only occupation going on here is the pre-occupation you have with trying to confer sympathy and support for the previous brutal regime in Iraq...

Because without the US troops in place and on the ground, there WILL BE NO UN PRESENCE THERE.

And that's the problem you peaceniks have.. You want to turn over everything to the UN without realizing that the UN is NOTHING.. It has no army.. And FEW, if any of the largest members other than the US will spend their treasure rebuilding Iraq..

Certainly not now that they've effectively shown they won't provide additional troops to support stabilization efforts.

As in Bosnia and Kosovo, problems created by certain EU nations is left for the US to solve..

GST, where did you acquire this peculiar idea that only the UN is "legitimate" and the US government is not?

Who voted for the UN? Not me! Not you! To whom are they accountable? To their governments, mostly still an unsavory and undemocratic lot. Saddam's Iraq was a member in good standing of the UN - it even chaired the Disarmament Committee just a few months ago. Syria is chairing the UNSC right now. This is what legitimacy looks like to you???!!!

I think you're confusing the UN with Star Trek's Federation Council.
