The UN sure DOESN'T have any capability to call any shots (except the ones being targeted at them)... Think GST.. Don't make people like have to spell it out for you.... Even if all troops were wearing BLUE UN berets, THEY'D STILL BE PREDOMINANTLY AMERICAN TROOPS!!!! Hello!!! Do you understand that??!!! American troops, regardless of what hat they are wearing... The UN DOESN'T WANT THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IRAQ.. (They just liked to say they did..).. Hell, they can't even protect their own headquarters from a bombing that killed one of their most distinguished diplomats. They bombed the UN headquarters and scared Kofi Annan off from increasing UN involvement, and he SUDDENLY had the revelation that the UN doesn't want to "own" this problem... Thus, there WILL BE NO UN TROOPS in Iraq, even if the US cuts and runs... NO NATION is willing to put them under UN command in such a hostile environment. You're certainly not going to get 100,000 troops (which would require 200,000 more to be in preparation for rotational deployments). So quit smoking that waccy-tobaccy and try a whiff of reality for once... The only realistic answer is either to turn as much of the stabilization mission to internal Iraqi control (that's what you want, right?), or to increase our aggressive raids and patrolling in order to hurt those who are financing/supporting the enemy and further assert our control over the country. Btw, SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET THOSE CONTRACTS!! Why do you have a problem with them being US companies? Do you think French and Russian companies should get them despite DOING NOTHING to rebuild or stabilize Iraq? Do you think that $20 Billion should be paid to non-US companies rather than creating US jobs?? Hell.. you'd probably prefer they give the contracts to Bin Laden's construction company. Hawk
